Why do chatbots seem cool at first, then get confusing later?

I’ve tried a bunch of AI chatbots, and something weird keeps happening. When I first start talking to them, they sound really smart and helpful. But after chatting for a while, things go downhill.

The bot might forget what I said earlier, repeat the same answers, or suddenly change its mind. Sometimes it gives replies that don’t even match the question. It feels like it loses focus over time.

Is this normal for AI chatbots? Do any of them actually remember things well during long chats, or is this just how they all work right now?

Yeah, chatbots are basically like that unreliable friend who swears they'll remember but just zones out. It's all hype until it isn't. Who even knows if they'll ever sort it out.
